Life Story for Irene V. Thorp

Irene V.  Thorp
Irene V. Thorp, 82, of Camillus, passed away Friday, August 13, 2010 at Syracuse Home Association. Born in Wharton, New Jersey on Wednesday, September 21, 1927, she lived in Camillus since 1971.

Irene graduated from Wharton High School in 1945 and attended Wilfred Academy. She was a beautician for several years.

A communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Irene was a member of the funeral guild, a money counter and chaired the annual garage sale held at the church. She also was a former American Red Cross volunteer.

Irene was predeceased by her parents, Helen Florek Vernicek and John Vernicek; and brothers, Stephen, Frank, John and Charles Vernicek.

Surviving are her husband of 61 years, William Sr.; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Catherine Jr. of Jefferson, Massachusetts, Timothy and Dana Grillo of Camillus and Christopher of Macedon; brother, Andrew Vernicek of Wharton, New Jersey; grandchildren, Meghan Thorp of Boston, Massachusetts, Daniel and Spencer Thorp, both of Southampton; step-grandchildren, Angela and Sam Ryder of Camillus; and several nieces, nephews and cousins in the New York City area and Slovakia.

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, August 17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 18 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church. Irene will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Warners.
